Redeemer Pacific College

Redeemer Pacific College (1999-2011) was founded by Thomas Hamel with assistance from psychologist (James Marland ). Both men were graduates of Trinity Western University (TWU).
Redeemer Pacific was a Catholic liberal arts college that was located near Langley, British Columbia in Canada. The school (partnered ) with Trinity Western to provide students with a foundation in Catholic liberal arts as they worked toward a degree in any of the undergraduate majors offered by TWU. Redeemer Pacific also positioned itself as an "orthodox" Catholic College, asserting that its teaching accorded with the teaching of the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. RPC achieved an affiliation with the (Franciscan University of Steubenville ) and sought and received a position on (The Cardinal Newman Society )'s listing of approved authentically-Catholic Colleges.
A central goal of RPC's academic program was to provide Catholic students who were attending Trinity Western University with the opportunity to concurrently deepen their knowledge of their own faith tradition. RPC courses were also open to Evangelical TWU students. Pope John Paul II's encyclical on ecumenism, (Ut Unum Sint ), recommended that Catholics cooperate with other Christian bodies in the education of young people, and Redeemer Pacific College's association with an Evangelical Protestant liberal Arts University was an (integral part ) of its founding premise and of the school's character. Redeemer Pacific consistently scored high in student satisfaction, enjoyed continuous growth in student population, and never ran a financial deficit in any 12 month period of its operation ((see www.thechartwellpress.com ), "The Founding of RPC").
In 2010 Mr. Hamel petitioned the Board of Governors to allow him to step down to the fundraiser's position after 12 years serving as president. In the spring of 2011 The Board elected a new president. The College's founders, including Mr. Hamel and Mr. Marland, a number of Board members and the Board's Chair, chose to leave RPC over the next year. The (new administration ), which consisted of leaders and members of the Canadian branch of (the ecclesial group "Communion and Liberation" ) and the revised Board of Governors, replaced the College's mission statement, changed the College's (name ), and, while retaining its presence and program next to TWU, established a (2 year certificate program ) independent of TWU featuring lower tuition rates and a new campus 4 miles from Trinity Western.
